"A change of mode or MUTATION, but not a modulation, occurs when music moves between two parallel keys." Zombies. It's the end of the world...Actually it simply seems that way in Music Theory land. Modes and modulations seems to be entering our classroom through their homemade doors. (That's a Theory joke- not well made but still funny for this poor insomniac!) But seriously, walking around campus it truly seems like an infection has occurred. Symptoms: Bags under eyes, sleeping in class, coming into class late, shabby clothes, lack of cleanliness, coughing, sneezing, over-drinking of caffeinated drinks- i.e. Monster, 5 Hour Energy, Dr. Pepper. Some call this college but I say it's the zombie apocalypse coming to pass. One day students will no longer make the long trip to the caf. Instead, they will begin eating their roommates and any other living thing that crosses in their way!...Highly unlikely- but a possibility no less.
Anyways, other than the influx of insomniacs in this merry school, the weather here has been quite interesting. Last Friday and Saturday the highs were in the upper seventies. Yesterday, the high was in the forties...Is this state really THAT bipolar? Besides the weather though, life is going pretty fine. Classes are hard but thats normal. The caf is...interesting but thats normal. Normal seems to be the norm around here. Oh, and by the way, Diction is horrible. But then again, thats also normal.
It is 11:00- do you know where your children are? I should hope so because as my mother always says "Nothing good happens after midnight!" So...I HAVE A WHOLE HOUR TO RUN FREE!!! :)
Consider these thoughts well. Keep singing and God bless!

Of Students and Music Majors
First post.
Ever.
I really don't know why I'm writing. I should be practicing piano or working on my diction recording...but I'm not. I guess I could be sleeping, but the likelihood of any girl in Gunn doing that is miniscule. So, I might as well talk. Not many will read this but I know one guy who will. But if you are reading this and you are not the guy I am referring to, then thank you for your time.
Now, most of the people reading this know I am a Music major. Oh, you think this is the easiest major in the world besides Interior Design. Ha. I'm laughing. I'm rolling on the floor laughing. I'm am laughing so much my roommate is scarred for her very life. Music is not easy. Not. At. All. In fact, in a recent study, Music is the hardest major tying with Nursing. So, Unless you are a Nursing major I do not pity you. You are lucky! "What's so hard?" you might ask. Well, 4 semesters of Music Theory which is, in non-music terms, the math of Music. I hate math. Then, 3 semesters of Music History. Luckily, I won't take that until next year. But, from what I hear...it's killer...literally. Next comes Ear Training- A note was just played on the piano...what was it? Oh, let's play 4 notes together...Major Major,Minor Minor, Major Minor, Diminished Minor, or Diminished Diminished? Don't talk to me about your little equations Math majors.
Though the life of a Music major gets way, way more complicated, I won't bore you with my class schedule. The point of me writing is to let out my feelings and frustration. So...RAWR!!!...Just kidding. I'm really not frustrated at this time- just a bit ticked about a few of my classes. No Problem. Though, I must say, college is nothing like I expected. When I got here, I had barely any free time. I was either hanging out with my new found friends or I was playing a game of ultimate frisbee in the dark. Then, life happened and everything changed. Once school officially started, the people I had met vanished. Now, some sticked around like my dear friends I had made over the summer. Other than them, all my new "friends" were busy with life. I got left behind. So, I continued to try my best in my classes and put my social life on hold.
Something happened in October and now things are different. I'll go into that in different post some other time. Besides, that doesn't correspond with my title. I love sweet tea. Did I mention that? I really love it. I also love music. The phrase "Music is Life" is so true! Music is everywhere and in everything. The mall, the theatre, the business office, the church. No matter where one goes, there will always be music. I see music as not only the harmonizes in staffs and scores but also in the traffic on the freeway and the quiet humming on the subway. Some might call sounds noise but I see it as music. All of it can be put together to form a wonderful composition I call life. And, in my opinion, it is the most wonderful work of art.
Keep singing and God Bless!
